Bad experience with taxis at LCCT

29 April, 2008

I WANT to share my frustrations and bad experience with my first attempt at using the LCCT taxi service at the arrival terminal recently.

As frequent flyers with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and other airlines operating at KLIA, my wife and I have had many experiences using the KLIA budget taxis back to my house in Cheras.

However, this was the first time we used AirAsia for a vacation and we had to use the facilities at the LCCT.

We arrived at LCCT in the evening on a flight from Macau. We had two medium-sized bags.

At the arrival counter, we bought a ticket for a budget taxi to Cheras for RM70.60 and went to queue for our taxi.

Upon arrival at the taxi rank, an employee of the ticket seller told us that we could not use the budget taxi because we had two medium-sized bags, which would not fit into the boot of a Proton Iswara taxi.

We insisted he allowed us try fitting the two bags into the boot of a Nissan Sentra or Proton Waja taxi, which were also at the queue, but they refused to do so.

We were then told the only way was to use the Premier taxi service. We were also informed that the second bag was not allowed inside the taxi as it was against Road Transport Department regulations.

As there were no other taxi services available at the LCCT, we had no alternative and finally had to pay more than RM100 for the Premier taxi service. This was more than we had paid for the ticket to Macau minus the airport tax.

By the way, we had, on previous occasions, no problems using a budget taxi from KLIA with the same two pieces of luggage.

I hope to get some clarification from the authorities on why there should be such an unreasonable monopoly on airport taxi services.

I would also like to know why there are different standards and services for KLIA and the LCCT.
