Skybus plies new route

Monday June 21, 2010

Budget travellers have more reason to smile with a new service connecting Bandar Utama to the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).

The service, launched on June 1, is operated by SkyBus Ventures Sdn Bhd, which launched the KL Sentral-LCCT service in 2006.

Skybus chief executive officer Christopher S. Thiagarajah said the new service would provide more convenience to budget travellers living in other areas.

“It is a comfortable ride on our buses. When we first started, we only had 100 commuters a day. Now, we cater to about 4,000 of them a day,” he said in an interview.

There are 16 different times for the BU-LCCT service, from 3.30am to 7.45pm, 36 for the KL Sentral-KLIA service and 38 for the KLIA-KL Sentral service.

Thiagarajah said it was a challenge to run a budget bus service as the profit margin was slim.

“But demand has been picking up. We have ferried almost two million passengers since the service started,” he said, adding that the firm had received many compliments from commuters.

On future plans, he said Skybus hoped to cover other areas such as Sunway and Puchong.

Tickets for the new route can be purchased on AirAsia flights or onboard Skybus. For enquiries on schedules and prices, log on to www.skybus.com.my
