What fees and charges are applicable to my flight?

Be informed about fees and charges that are related to your departing destination. Please check fees and charges page for all surcharges and fees which vary according to different flights.

What is Processing Fee?

To ensure that AirAsia guests are provided a comfortable and safe booking environment, AirAsia has invested substantially to expand, implement and maintain its online payment systems and especially, to upgrade, enhance and improve the security features for online credit, debit and charge cards payments. The Processing Fee is to subsidize the costs of the payment systems.

A Processing Fee is charged when payment is made through credit, debit or charge cards. The fee is charged per guest for each way and only applies to the initial booking. Any changes or addition to existing booking is excluded from the Processing Fee. The fee is non-refundable.

How do I pay for sports equipment fee? What are the fees?

The most convenient way would be to pre book Sports Equipment Fee online and save up to 50%. You can pay the sports equipment fee upon check in at the airport counter but it will be more expensive and limited to 20kg. If you pre-book online, you can select from various Sport Equipment weight tiers: 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg and 40kg. These Sport Equipment fees are typically slightly higher than regular Baggage fees as it includes a handling fee.

Sports Equipment Fee is applicable to Surfboards, Snowboards, Bicycles, Scuba, Golf and Snow Skiing gears. Any other sporting equipment (that is not stated earlier) is accepted as part of the baggage allowance and you can just purchase normal baggage allowance for that.

Will there be charges if I check in at the airport counter for my flight?

Check in fee of RM10 (it’s equivalent in foreign currency) will be charged for all domestic flights in Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan (1,000 yen) at the counter and also to reprint boarding pass. There will be no counter check in fee for all international flights effective 22nd December 2011.

To save time and costs you may perform web check in, mobile check in and kiosk check in. If you are performing a web check-in kindly make sure that you are able to print your boarding pass; if you are performing kiosk check in make sure you have your 6-digit booking reference number ready.

There will be no counter check in charge for dropping luggage for self check in guests.

Counter check-in is free of charge on other airlines. What is the rationale for AirAsia to implement a fee?

This is to promote better efficiency and be cost effective. AirAsia will now focus on self check-in (via web and mobile) and counter check-in will be chargeable as it is an additional service with added human resources. It will be considered as part of AirAsia value added service to its guests.

Counter check-in charges will also be part of ancillary revenue stream. Revenue via ancillary streams helps AirAsia offset the escalating jet fuel price, which has exceeded USD$110 per barrel. Instead of transferring the full cost of the jetfuel price hike to AirAsia guests, AirAsia choses to counter the spike by aggressively growing its revenue through ancillary products and services.

What is counter check-in fee?

Counter check-in fee is a service fee that applies to a guest who performs a manual check-in at the airport check-in counter for domestic flights.

Why RM10?

The RM10 charge is based on the calculation of rental and manpower cost needed per day of operations, for one pax per check-in counter.

When will it be effective?

Effective 22 Dec 2011, check-in fees for international flights will be waived whereas there will be no changes in fees for domestic flights.

How much is the counter check-in fee and does the fee vary by destination/airport?

Counter check-in fee is RM10 (and its currency exchange equivalent) per guest and payable at the airport check-in counter or online. The fee will be the same across all destinations and airports where counter check-in fee applies.

When will I be charged for this counter check-in fee?

The counter check-in fee applies to all bookings made from 21 Sept 2011 onwards. However as of 22 Dec 2011, counter check-in fee for international flights has been abolished thus leaving only domestic flights chargeable to this fee.

There will be no charges for self check-in services via web or mobile, which are available upon booking confirmation and up to 1 hour (AirAsia Flights) before your flight departure.

Is the fee charged per booking or per guest?

The fee is charged per guest and per check-in basis.

Does the fee differ for children and adult?

No. Counter check-in fee will be charged at the same rate for every guest checking in at the counter regardless of age.

I’ve paid for the counter check-in fee but my flight was cancelled, what should I do?

In case of flight cancellation, you are entitle for a full refund or be placed on the next available flight. Guests who are moved to a new flight due to flight reschedule/cancellation, check-in fee will be exempted for recheck-in of the new flight.

Will this apply to disabled and young passengers travelling alone (YPTA)?

Disabled guests or those with reduced mobility that require special needs such as: blind or visually impaired guest, deaf or hearing impaired guest & physically impaired guest will be exempted. However, YPTAs will be charged for the counter check-in fee.

Who are exempted from the counter check-in fee?

Guest(s) with reduced mobility/require special needs (Blind or visually impaired guest, deaf or hearing impaired guest, physically impaired guest) , recheck-in due to flight retime/reschedule.

Will receipts be issued for the counter check-in fee payment?

Yes. AirAsia ground staff will issue guests with receipts after payment is made.

Can I pre-pay online for counter check-in fee?

Yes. You are able to pay the counter check-in fee during flight booking if you wish to check-in at the airport conventional check-in counters.

Are there any other options for check-in without paying for the charges?

AirAsia provides FREE, EASY & QUICK services for you to self check-in via AirAsia web and mobile (selected countries only). You can check-in upon booking confirmation and up to 1 hour (AirAsia Flights) before your flight scheduled departure.

Will I still be charged the counter check-in fee in case of kiosk breakdown?

Yes, as manual check-in procedure at the counter needs to be performed in the event of kiosk breakdown. Guests are strongly encouraged to perform WEB check-in to avoid such incident.

I am travelling in a group and there are more than 9 passengers under thea same PNR, can I perform self check-in to avoid the counter check-in fee?

Yes, now you can do WEB check-in for group booking. However, mobile and kiosk check-in are NOT available for group booking check-in.

Can I check-in at the Baggage Drop-Off Counter and pay the counter check-in fee at the Baggage Drop-Off Counter?

No. Baggage Drop-Off Counters are dedicated for guests who have performed self check-in at home in order to shorten their check-in process and to avoid creating long queues at the Baggage Drop-Off Counters. If you wish to check-in at the counters, please proceed to the conventional check-in counters instead.

I had performed self check-in, but I forgot to bring my boarding pass with me to the airport. Will I be charged for the printing of my boarding pass at the counter?

Yes. If you request to print your boarding pass at the airport check-in counters, it will be considered as recheck-in. Check-in fee will apply.

In case of 2D barcode scanner machines breakdown or I have problem scanning my 2D barcode using the machine, what should I do? Will I be charged the counter check-in fee to print my boarding pass?

In case of 2D barcode scanner machine breakdown, you can proceed to the check-in counter to request for a free check-in provided that you present your 2D barcode to the staff at the check-in counter to prove that you have already self checked-in.

Why do I have to pay a change fee & fare difference for changing my ticket?

AirAsia offers low fares and hope that everyone has a chance to purchase AirAsia sales fares and fly!

AirAsia wants to avoid situations where passengers purchase the cheap fares first and then change for free to higher-priced fares. Hence AirAsia charges you a change fee and also require you to pay the fare difference if you need to change the time or date of your ticket to ensure AirAsia are fair to all AirAsia customers.

What is “Spoilage Fee”?

If you make any changes in your confirmed booking which results in a lower amount payable, the unutilised portion shall not be refundable in accordance with Article 5.3 of the Terms and Conditions of Carriage. This will appear as ?poilage?in the revised booking.

What is the difference between pre-booked Supersize and the airport rate upon check-in?

Pre-booked Supersize Fee gives you a choice to purchase from 15kg to a maximum of 40kg with at least 50% discount, while the Airport Rate only allows you to pay for up to 15kg and every kg thereafter will be charged excess baggage at the applicable rate depending on your origin and destination in AirAsia fee schedule: fees and charges page.

Can I bring my golf equipment?

Since a golf set has to be checked in, your golf set:

  • Must be in a recognized golf case
  • Must be in one bag containing nothing more than 14 clubs, one dozen of golf balls, umbrella and one pair of golf shoes
  • Should be of the general and standard dimensions

Can I increase my baggage weight?

You may Supersize your baggage up to 40kg, for a fee. You can do this:

  • a) By going to Login page and logging on Manage My Booking up to 4 hours prior to scheduled departure time.
  • b) By using AirAsia Mobile App (for smartphone users) or going to mobile.airasia.com, and select My Bookings up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure
  • c) Through AirAsia Call Centre up to 4 hours prior to scheduled departure time.

What is an all-in fare?

An all-in fare comprises of the base fare and including,

  • A non-refundable processing fee that is applicable for payments via credit, debit or charge card.
  • Fuel surcharges, carbon offset surcharge (for flights to/from Europe) and airport taxes (except for selected airports where airport tax is collected at the point of departure).

Also note that,

  • All fares are quoted for single journey (one-way) only
  • All taxes must be paid at the time of purchase unless otherwise stated
  • Foreign fares are subjected to currency exchange rates

What is a Promo Fare?

Promo fares are flights sold during special periods when fares are especially low. They are available for specific travel periods and come with certain restrictions.

Subsequent changes to flight dates or times may be allowed but are subject to the fare difference and a change fee.

We do not allow guests to transfer their tickets to another person.
